LOCUM TIPS
Locum Apps hopes you will find these tips helpful and that they will ease your shifts in your locum workplace. Additionally, we hope that with the right attitude and your willingness to learn, you will find yourself having more career opportunities at your preferred hospital. Happy Locuming!
AVOID LAST-MINUTE CANCELLATIONS
Locum Apps frowns upon last-minute job cancellations; however, we understand that there are situations where last-minute cancellations cannot be avoided. If such incidents arise, Locum Apps encourages you to inform both the hospital and the Locum Apps team.
Remember, your health and safety are our utmost concerns when you do not show up for your locum jobs. No-shows without prior notice or cancellations without valid reasons will lead to the suspension of your account.
MAKE PREPARATIONS
While accepting a job on Locum Apps is as easy as clicking the accept button, you should always plan ahead and make preparations. Make sure you understand the description of the job you have accepted, and if the job scope is unclear, you should contact the person in charge to inquire further.
This should include knowing what to wear and whether uniforms/scrubs are provided by the workplace. Never assume your role when accepting a job, especially if it is your first time working in a new environment.
DO NOT BE LATE
First impressions are always important when coming to work at a new workplace. Plan your trip to work ahead of time.
There's nothing worse than turning up for a shift looking rushed and confused. Make the effort to arrive early or be on time to show the hospital that you want to be there.
BE RESPONSIBLE
Don't be a locum who uses the excuse of "I am just a locum" to refuse certain tasks. Locums who don't pull their weight may leave a trail of issues behind for the other staff to deal with in the next shift. So get your work done the same way you would when working a regular job.
Always ask when you don't know or are unsure about something! This is important because as a locum, you are considered a trainee. Most regular staff will be ready to help. Know your limitations, and this will show your locum workplace that you are responsible.
WORK WITH ENTHUSIASM
Make an effort to bring some energy when working with the people at your locum workplace. Be flexible and willing to extend a helping hand. Volunteer to do extra hours or take on an extra shift if you are available when there are last-minute changes. Express your willingness to learn, especially in your area of interest and specialty.
